Tim’s tips – ENJO

Recare’s product Q&A with our resident expert Tim Cox

Hi everyone, hope you’re having a great summer getting out and about. Our new ENJO attendant wheelchair power assist product is proving popular for just that, so this month let’s find out more about it…

ENJO

How would you describe the product in simple terms?

The ENJO is a wheelchair assistance power pack – attendant operated. It fits under an attendant controlled, manual wheelchair so pushing is easier. Learn more by watching my video below.

What are the common questions about the ENJO?

As the ENJO is a popular product we get asked lots of questions. One of the most common is, ‘is it easy to fit?’. Yes, is the answer. And it’s so much simpler and quicker than all other alternative products out there. It requires no tools to attach and only weighs 4 kilos so easy to lift. I’d say initial fitting is a matter of minutes whereas general fitting for use is a matter of seconds.

Other features people want to know about include the fact that the ENJO is airplane friendly as its battery meets all the regulations and comes with a certificate. This means it can go in the plane cabin and as it comes with a compact travel case, our customers tell us it fits easily under a seat or in an overhead locker.

The distance the ENJO will power a wheelchair along is another key point to make – its range is around 14 miles which is plenty for a day out. Most other power packs can only do around 9-10 miles, so this range is really impressive. Charging is fast and we know from its popularity on the continent, that the battery has a long lifespan. Speed wise it goes 4mph so a comfortable walking pace however what’s neat about the ENJO, is that it has a power boost button to help you get up hills or over difficult surfaces.

Compatibility with wheelchairs always comes up in conversation with power add-ons. And again the ENJO excels here as it’s suitable for almost all wheelchairs including tilt-in-space models such as the popular Invacare Azalea. We have a vast range of different brackets which makes this possible.

What are its key features and benefits?

The 2 year warranty is a big bonus. Most other power packs only come with 1 year. This gives you extra peace of mind just in case a rare issue may arise. I’d said the major benefit though is its transportability. The carry case it comes with is superb as it snuggly protects all the components in one place and helps avoid losing any of the parts.

In terms of performance, the ENJO is powerful and reliable. It’s engineered so well, it’s robust and has no flimsy parts that could break over time. It has an amazing maximum user weight of 150kg and because it is mounted more centrally under a wheelchair, it delivers better grip and traction. Also, as it’s further underneath, it doesn’t stick out the back, so the person walking has plenty of clearance. Overall, the ENJO is great quality and as the motor, battery and wheel are all one unit, it’s sturdier and more efficient.

What type of customers choose the ENJO?

Anybody that needs help pushing someone in a wheelchair. That’s the beauty of the ENJO. As it’s so manageable, compact and lightweight, older people or individuals with restricted mobility can still carry and fit it without stress or strain. We regularly find that an older person who needs to be pushed in a wheelchair will have a partner of the same age. So having a solution like the ENJO means people can still go out together even if mobility is a shared challenge.

As it is so simple to operate, it takes little time to get used to using it. This not only helps owners and their families, but carers too who might be unfamiliar with the ENJO. Ultimately for whoever is responsible for pushing a wheelchair, it helps conserve their energy, so time outdoors is more pleasant and less tiring for longer.

What lifestyles does it suit?

Again, the ENJO suits lots of different lifestyles. Mainly for people who like to get outdoors on a regular basis or travel further afield.

Why does Recare think it is a great product?

Lots of reasons. Mainly around performance and usability. It’s lightweight yet strong, suits a wide range of users and its travel case is fantastic. All the components are protected and stored in one place for convenience. We see so many people with other power packs who have components scattered around their car boot which get lost or damaged. Plus, as it fits on most wheelchairs, you don’t need to buy an extra powerchair or a different wheelchair which saves you money. Basically, it’s a really cost effective, flexible choice.
