The adaptable design of the Ottobock Juvo powered wheelchair range means they are available in front-wheel-drive, mid-wheel-drive, or rear-wheel-drive configurable powerchairs.

Mid Wheel Drive (MWD)

The mid-wheel drive offers incomparable driving characteristics for all fields of application. The single-wheel suspension and torsion drive system are the basis for this intuitive drive type. The direct pivot point makes safe handling possible even with more complex input forms.

Why mid-wheel drive?

Intuitive movement and driving thanks to the central pivot point

Maximum stability against tipping

Optimum weight distribution

Low centrifugal forces

Ideal for indoor and outdoor use

Easily navigate curbs

User comfort

Postural stability

100-hour test during development

Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD)

The front-wheel drive can easily overcome obstacles such as curbs thanks to its large drive wheels. It also offers you good transfer possibilities and a high degree of manoeuvrability. The wheelchair has a relatively small turning radius with a standard 90° motion and can drive incredibly close to furniture or desks.

Why front-wheel drive?

  • Compact design
  • Minimal turning radius
  • Drives up close to objects
  • Good overview in front of the wheelchair
  • Ideal for indoor and outdoor use
  • Easily navigate curbs
  • User comfort
  • Good leg positioning
  • Postural stability
  • 100-hour test during development

Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD)

The rear-wheel drive offers numerous variations in speed and features, and the design permits optimum force distribution on various surfaces. Thanks to its directional stability, the Juvo with rear-wheel drive is ideal for outdoor use and is easy for most users to learn.

Why rear-wheel drive?

  • Excellent directional stability, even at higher speeds
  • Flexible centre of gravity distribution
  • Good drive wheel traction when driving up and down slopes
  • Ideal for indoor and outdoor use
  • Easily navigate curbs
  • User comfort
  • Postural stability
  • 100-hour test during development

Crash Tested

This product has been certified to allow the user to stay in the powerchair whilst the powerchair is transported in a motor vehicle. This certifies that this powerchair meets the performance requirements of ISO 7176-19 regulations.

Vibration compensation

The proper positioning of the input module is essential if a chin or lip control is used. Effortless driving is possible only if it is aligned precisely. Our joysticks can detect vibrations caused by ground conditions such as cobblestones and adjust the driving speed automatically.

Gyroscope module

This module is a stabilisation programme that offers users effortless driving. The reliable directional stability of your wheelchair eliminates inconvenient driving corrections and enables precise manoeuvring on various surfaces and slopes. A gyroscope is also recommended when using digital inputs such as switch controls. It is part of the essential equipment of the front-wheel-drive Juvo in conjunction with the TEN° control unit.

Transportation in a vehicle

All Juvo drive versions are crash-tested and approved according to ISO 7176-19 for transporting the user in a vehicle while sitting in a wheelchair.

Slower driving on curves

Our control units allow you to adjust the driving parameters individually. Safety-relevant values that prevent the wheelchair from tipping over on curves are strictly maintained. For example, if the control unit registers a steering motion, it automatically lowers the speed.

Caster swivel lock

Indeed, driving backwards is rarely necessary with a manoeuvrable wheelchair, but it can’t always be avoided, for example, when exiting a lift or on-ramps. A caster swivel lock can suppress the undesired and difficult-to-control steering motion when the power wheelchair changes driving directions. This keeps the fixed caster wheels in their straight-ahead position. The lock can be ordered as an option in a manual or power version.
